Horizon Center for Transportation Technology
Horizon Center for Transportation Technology, 4940 88th Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53144 (262) 564-3900 Gateway has a community purpose to lead the transportation industry by providing training at every level of education—high school, through college, and including working professionals—in a state-of-the-art facility that serves as the strategic hub for the Midwest’s transportation industry. Gateway's Horizon Center for Transportation Technology supports workforce training to meet the highest industry skills standards. The timing is right for the Horizon Center because of the need to counteract shortages of trained and certified vehicle technicians and instructors. The Horizon Center is a world-class, state-of-the-art facility that jointly serves high schools, college, and career professionals. The Center boasts unique conferencing capabilities, a technology infrastructure that is completely wireless and interactive with the World Wide Web and an educational environment that is truly a model for the future. Students experiencing the programs are issued a laptop computer by which all curriculum, team projects and instructor interaction is managed. Many have called this the college's first paperless educational program. The Horizon Center houses NATEF-certified automotive programs, an auto diagnostics certification program and aeronautics-pilot training. It is poised for future growth in other transportation-related industries. Highly-skilled automotive diagnostic technicians, such as those educated through the newly developed curriculum at Horizon Center, are in great demand locally and nationally. Southeastern Wisconsin has several transportation-related businesses, from vehicle and component suppliers such as DaimlerChrysler and Modine to such industry leaders as Snap-on Incorporated and Lynch Diversified Vehicles. CNH America, Bombardier and Laidlaw are considered transportation-related businesses and require workers with skills learned at the Horizon Center, as well. The tri-county region hosts 50 automotive dealerships and there are 38 ASE Blue Seal service centers statewide – which require a high percentage of ASE-certified technicians, those who are trained in the center.
