Registration
Gateway offers two approaches for you to register for classes: In person at any Campus Student Services area and now, both new and continuing students have the opportunity to register for classes online using Web Advisor and a credit card.
You need to know what classes you want by scanning the current Master Class Schedule or through Web Advisor (you don’t have to be a current student to review class availability online—but must have a Password to use the online service to register).

Quick Course Search
If you know the course number of the course for which you would like to register, you may quickly look up the course to find the days and times that it is offered.
For example:
To look up the course with the number 101-100
- Go to WebAdvisor.
- Click "Students (no login required)"
- Click “Search for Sections”
- 1) Select the Department (this is the first 3 numbers): 101 Accounting
2) Enter the Course (the last 3 numbers): 100
3) Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
Alternatively, you may select only the department or semester and click the submit button. If you only select the semester, it may take a while to process because it will display all courses offered that semester at Gateway.
Registration Requirements
To register for classes, a student must:
- Submit a completed registration form to the Registration Office or register via WebAdvisor.
- Present a Photo ID in order to register in person.
- Not have an outstanding financial obligation to the College.
- Have completed the application for admissions process, if required.
Some rules about being considered part of a class:
- Students must be officially registered to sit in a class.
- Students must be officially enrolled in order to receive credit for class(es).
- Students who are dropped from a class because they did not make required payments on their payment plan are NOT eligible for reinstatement at the end of the term, and are not eligible to receive credit for the class.
Class Cancellations
Gateway reserves the right to cancel any scheduled class or to combine class sections as a result of insufficient enrollments. If this does occur, every effort will be made to notify the student prior to the start of the class. He or she is urged to work with a Student Services counselor in making alternative class selections. Refunds are issued for canceled classes.
Class Availability
- Students interested in attempting to register for a closed class should monitor seat availability via WebAdvisor.
- Students no longer have to be waitlisted for closed classes and wait for phone calls from Registration/Cashiers if seats become available in order to register.
- Effective April 2007, if a seat becomes available in a closed class, the class will be re-opened. The open status and number of seats available will be immediately displayed via WebAdvisor.
- Students will be able to register via WebAdvisor or in person for newly re-opened classes through the normal registration process, as seats are available.
Student Enrollment Status
Student enrollment status is determined by the number of credit hours for which a student is registered. A full-time student is defined as one who is enrolled in 12 or more credit hours for fall or spring semesters. A part-time student is defined as one who is enrolled in less than 12 credit hours for fall or spring semesters. A full-time student for summer semester is defined as one who is enrolled in 12 or more credit hours since the summer semester is now a full semester.
Auditing a Course
At times a student may wish to attend a class without receiving a grade or credits. To do so, the student must register to audit the course. The fees are the same, whether the student is auditing the course or taking it for credit
A student must notify Registration of his or her audit status within the first four weeks of class. A student who is auditing a course may not change his or her enrollment in the class to credit-seeking, or vice versa, after the first four weeks or 20% of the class has passed. At the completion of the course, the student will receive a grade of AU (audit).
Senior Citizen Audits of Post Secondary Courses
Wisconsin residents, 60 years or older on the start date of the class, may audit a technical diploma or associate degree course without paying the tuition portion of the class fee, provided space is available. This is a significantly reduced rate. Material, activity, and other miscellaneous fees will be charged. Forms for requesting a senior audit are available at Registration. If a senior citizen wants credit for the course, regular registration procedures and charges apply. The regular audit rules apply to changing from credit-seeking to audit and vice versa.
Senior Citizens and ACE Classes
Wisconsin citizens 62 years of age or older on the start date of the class may take Adult Continuing Education (ACE) classes at a significantly reduced rate. A student in this category is not charged tuition for the class, only material and miscellaneous fees will be charged. Please contact Registration for information.
