Admissions Priority Dates
Students can apply at any time, but meeting these priority dates for each semester will ensure the application process will be complete in time for coordination with financial aid.
Summer Semester – Apply by January 1
Fall Semester – Apply by July 1
Spring Semester – Apply by October 1
How to apply…
To be admitted to an associate degree or technical diploma program, students must:
1. Submit a completed Application for Admission and pay a $30 application fee. (Click here for Important Application for Admission Information.)
2. Submit documentation as required by the program. (Click here for a list of admission requirements for your program.) Examples include official verification of completion of high school, background information disclosures, certifications etc. Transcripts will also be needed – they are sent directly by the issuing school or brought in a sealed school envelope. If you are a student who has a foreign transcript and need to verify completion of a secondary credential or who are looking for possible transfer of credits, you will need to have their official foreign transcripts evaluated by a recognized educational translation service. Your transcripts may need to be evaluated even if you are from an English-speaking country or your educational program was conducted in English.
3. Take Gateway’s placement test. For placement test information go to http://www.gtc.edu/page.asp?q=38. To see Sample Questions see http://www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html.
Official transcripts are those sent directly by the issuing school or brought in a sealed envelope. Equivalence can be earned through a combination of prior class work and/or current work experience. For equivalence information, call the program counselor.
Student admission status
Your status as a student falls within one of several categories. Program acceptance does not guarantee your eligibility to register for core program courses if program demand exceeds available seats. See your program counselor for details.
Full Acceptance Status
For individuals who have met all program admission requirements and for whom remediation is not recommended.
Remedial Acceptance Status
For individuals who have met all program admission requirements and for whom placement scores indicate remediation is recommended.
Conditional Acceptance Status
For programs requiring a high school diploma for admission, a conditional acceptance may apply for students in the last semester of their high school program or last half of their GED testing.
Conditionally accepted students may register with newly accepted students for their first semester at Gateway. The receipt of official verification of the secondary credential or equivalent must be met prior the start of the student’s second semester. Students accepted conditionally are ineligible for financial aid until the semester following the date Gateway has received official verification of completion of the secondary credential.
Undeclared Student Status
For individuals who are uncertain of their program decision and wish to take general education courses and other program courses that would build toward a program. Placement testing is required prior to taking courses.
Students are encouraged to meet with a program counselor to discuss program information, course selection, and any other additional requirements.
Work you may have done in the past, such as military credits, foreign school credits, high school classes, and life experience, may count toward your Gateway degree.
