Gateway presents two information sessions for new Diesel Aviation training program

Gateway Technical College will host two informational sessions on a newly created program aimed at training students to meet projected industry demand for qualified aviation manufacturing workers.

Beginning in Fall 2013, Gateway, in partnership with DeltaHawk Engines Inc., will offer the two-semester Diesel Aviation Manufacturing certificate program. DeltaHawk, specifically, anticipates needing workers trained in this field to fill projected open positions within their company.

“This certificate brings a variety of programs together, providing training for this career field which is expected to expand in the near future,” says Debbie Davidson, vice president, Gateway Workforce and Economic Development Division. “This training collectively offers skill development in the disciplines of our aviation, diesel and manufacturing programs. It is very unique.”

Davidson says the training is based on DeltaHawk’s workforce needs. Gateway and DeltaHawk have partnered on a Wisconsin Workforce Partnership Grant which provided the funding to develop curriculum, purchase equipment, and train assemblers and technicians through the new Diesel Aviation Manufacturing certificate.

“This represents another way Gateway works with area companies to design a program that meets their needs by training technicians to fill the jobs of the future – and providing those workers with a family-supporting career, as well,” says Davidson.

Information sessions are planned during July for those interested in enrolling in the program. Sessions will be held at Gateway’s Horizon Center for Transportation Technology, 4940 88th Ave., Kenosha.

  • The first session will be 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 15
  • A second session will be held 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 24

Gateway instructors will discuss the details of the program and representatives from DeltaHawk will be on hand to talk about the industry need for trained technicians. These sessions are open to the public and reservations are not required.
