To receive federal or state financial aid funds administered by Gateway, students must:

• Be accepted into an eligible Technical Diploma or Associate Degree Program, meeting all program admission requirements prior to the start of the semester
• Be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits as an undergraduate (except for Pell Grant consideration)
• Be a U. S. citizen, a national or a permanent resident of the United States .
• Demonstrate financial need as determined by Gateway's Financial Aid Office through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process.
• Not be in default on any educational loan, or demonstrate an unwillingness to repay any educational loan, and/or owe any overpayment to any federal (Title IV) aid including Gateway Technical College , the U. S. Department of Education. Review federal loans at www.nslds.ed.gov
• Be in compliance with Selective Service regulations; register for Selective Service at www.sss.gov
• Have a valid Social Security Number.
• Not have financial aid eligibility suspended or terminated due to a conviction for a drug-related offense that occurred while receiving financial aid (Title IV) assistance.
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the federal Good Academic Standing criteria.
• Participate in Loan Entrance and Exit Counseling if award includes loans.
• Not be delinquent in payments of court-ordered child support and/or maintenance (this applies only to State of Wisconsin-controlled grants).

Students can only receive aid from one institution at a time-even if enrolled at two colleges. However, in some cases, their enrollment and costs at another institution may be considered when determining financial aid eligibility at Gateway. This generally only makes a difference if you are enrolled at Gateway less than full-time and are the recipient of Federal Pell Grant funds. To have credits that a student is taking from another college considered in their total credit load, they should contact the college awarding financial aid to initiate a consortium agreement.

Enrollment Status
Financial aid awards are based on enrollment status at Census Date and are subject to change based on a change in credit load. Enrollment statuses are:

• Less than half-time: student taking less than 6 credits per semester
• Half-time: student taking 6 - 8 credits per semester
• 3/4-time: student taking 9 - 11 credits per semester
• Full-time: student taking 12 or more credits per semester

3rd Party Funding
Assistance from other funding sources must be reported to the Financial Aid Office. Examples of 3rd Party Funding include, but are not limited to, Department of Vocational Training (DVR), Veteran Benefits, TAA/TRA, Scholarships, and Employer Tuition Reimbursement.

Financial aid information is subject to change at any time due to changes in federal, state, or sponsoring agency regulations. Financial aid and other services and benefits offered by the Wisconsin Technical College System Board and Gateway Technical College are provided on a nondiscriminatory basis as required by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, Governor's Executive Order #9, and Executive Order 11236 as amended by Governor's Order #9, as set forth in the College's Affirmative Action Plan.
