“I’m Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter” Book Discussions

Join us for an engaging and insightful bilingual discussion on the book "I'm Not Your Perfect Daughter" by Erika L. Sanchez. This novel explores themes of identity, family dynamics and cultural expectations through the story of Julia Reyes, a young Mexican American girl dealing with the sudden death of her sister and navigating her path in life.

Hispanic Heritage Lunch

Thursdays, September 19 and September 26 • 11 a.m. 
Racine Campus - Culinary Arts Kitchen
Purchase authentic dishes inspired by Hispanic heritage and created by Gateway’s Culinary Arts students for only $10. This event is about celebrating the diverse culinary traditions of Latino cultures and promoting cultural appreciation and understanding through food.

Friday Music Listening Parties in partnership with Latinos Unidos Club

Fridays, September 20 & 27, October 4 & 11 • 3-4 p.m.
Join via Zoom.
September 20: Learn about Mariachi music, which blends Indigenous, African and European cultures.
September 27: Find out more about Celia Cruz, Selena Quintanilla and other legendary singers.
October 4: Discover the history and evolution of Pop music.
October 11: Move to Bachata music while learning the various elements and cultures it originated from.

Drag Queen Loteria in partnership with Latinos Unidos Club and Rainbow Alliance

Join us for a free and fast-paced game of loteria (bingo with pictures). There'll be snacks, prizes (for students only!) and music with DJ Femme Noir as drag performer Seterah Outlett-Sodi hosts a fabulous night.

This event embraces diversity, fosters community engagement and promotes cultural appreciation through a fun and interactive activity, plus it benefits Gateway’s LGBTQ+ scholarship!

National Voters Registration Day

Stop by the Diversity 365 table and grab a sweet treat while you register to vote or check the accuracy of your voter registration information. 

We can also help you find your polling place, what’s on the ballot, when the next election is scheduled and/or request an absentee ballot if that’s how you prefer to cast your vote. Sweet treats are available while supplies last.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Training 

September 18 • 10 a.m. • Virtual via Zoom
September 19 • 11 a.m. • Racine Campus, Student Services - R301
This 60-90 minute training will help prepare you to help others who may be feeling suicidal. No previous mental health experience is required, and the training is open to all.

Title IX Awareness Month

October is Title IX Awareness Month. Join us for activities to learn ways to protect yourself from sex discrimination and harassment.

Women and Children's Horizons Tabling

Self-Defense Workshop

SAFE International Self-defense expert William Stedman of MK Protection combines life-saving strategies with just the right dose of humor in this workshop offered to Gateway students and staff. This session includes hands-on practice.
