Pay Scale: $7.25 - $20.00 per hour
Working Conditions
Cosmetologists generally work in clean, pleasant surroundings with good lighting and ventilation. Workers must stand a great deal and prolonged exposure to some hair and nail chemicals may be hazardous and cause irritation. Evening and weekend work is often expected.
Interest and Temperament
Persons who want to become cosmetologists should exhibit finger dexterity, a sense of form and artistry, and they should be able to deal well with the public.
General Qualifications
Must be in good physical health.
Length of Training
Training lasts for two years consisting of no less than 4,000 hours of on-the-job training with a minimum of 288 hours of classroom instruction. When apprenticeship is completed, must pass Cosmetology State Board.
