Dress for Success Program Slated at Elkhorn Campus
Dress for Success

You have secured that sought-after interview, but do not have professional attire in your wardrobe and do not have the means to purchase an impression-grabbing outfit. So, you go anyway. This is a mistake, according to Ken Riley, Gateway Step Up program specialist.

“The first impression is key to meeting with any employer,” Riley said. “Plus, you will feel more confident if you are dressed professionally.”

Gateway’s Step Up program is hosting a Dress for Success workshop and fashion show from noon to 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the South Building, Room 112, of the Elkhorn Campus. The event is a cooperative effort with the Racine YWCA Dress for Success program. The event is free and includes complimentary lunch.

Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and life.

“The Step Up program wanted to partner with Dress for Success because the participants in the program will have the opportunity to get professional clothes to attend job interviews,” Riley said.

Gateway’s Step Up Club is holding a professional women’s clothing drive to support the Dress for Success program.  Women’s professional clothing items can be donated at a blue bin located on each campus near the Student Service Center. Items requested include gently used seasonal interview suits and dress clothing, purses and belts in neutral tones, closed toe shoes, packages of new panty hose, dress or trouser socks and new makeup.
